From Fasano ( Br ) Italy too, he's a guitar player well known to the readers of our column. Last year he's been one of the three guitar players who were introduced by Chitarre at the contest held in Sarzana, Italy, “ New Sounds of Acoustic Music”. Carlo has sent in to us four new tracks in which the intimate acoustic side and the wilder side of a cocker mingle together. The first composition is called “Forecast in Time” and it is performed by using open tuning acoustic guitar, DGDGAD, which reminds some new-age atmospheres à la Michael Hedges ,just to understand each other. The second track is less interesting if comparade to the previous one, and it introduces a melody which recalls some music from the Far-East and titled as “ Kingdom of Heaven” As far as the electric side, we find two covers played in a small club venue in London, UK, for the Legend contest. One is Beck 's “Definitely Maybe“, while the other cover is Jimi Hendrix “Voodoo Chile”. While audio quality is the not the proper one, nonetheless one can appreciate Carlo's intensions, who gives room to improvvisation in both tracks.

Even Losavio a guitar player From Fasano (BR) Italy, is an old acquaintance of us. This time Carlo proposes us two original traks made of preset backgrounds found on a magazine compilation. First track, Eighty some think is a melodic and pathos-charged Rock-ballad in which Carlo gives vent to all his lyricism. Second track, just from the title, Funk Frenzy is a bit more animated and the guitar gets more technical and aggressive.

The panorama of Italian international music could get richer with a new star from Fasano. The 31 year old guitarist Carlo Losavio is entering the final phase of “NEW SOUND ACOUSTIC MUSIC PRIZE WILDER DAVOLI 2006”, international contest for emergent guitarists. The 9th INTERNATIONAL ACOUSTIC GUITAR MEETING-SARZANA (La Spezia), opens on 18th May, one of the most eagerly awaited annual contests in the music sector. After having sent an adaptation of PRIVATE INVESTIGATIONS ( by Dire Straits ) and a composition called FREE LOVE FREE MUSIC to the specialist music magazine, CHITARRE (who have previously written positively about this local musician's compositions), Carlo Losavio was contacted personally by Mr. Enzo Barra the head of “Playgame Music” who told him he is one of 12 finalists. This surely is the maximum recognition for this Fasano musician who will be performing before an expert panel of judges comprising of Woody Mann, John Monteleone, Maurizio Piccoli, Mario Giovannini, Giovanni Unterberger of Lizard School, Willy Davoli of Wilder, Giovanni Pelosi of fingerpicking.net, Mario Vignali from ADGPA Italy, Giovanni Ravaglioli, Alessio Ambrosi, Andrea Carpi, Director of magazine Chitarre.

Carlo Losavio is not a new name for the ears who regularly follow up us. In fact, this is the third demo we receive from this guitar player and each time is always a pleasure for us to listen to how his playing and compositions get better more and more. Two are the proposed titles "Dicembre" and "Mille favole". Both tracks are melodic rock style instrumentals, a bit Satriani mannered, just to understand each other. The first track starts with a funky rhythm guitar where he mingles the electric bass of Piero Boggia and synthesized drums. A second fuzzy guitar with notable wha effect, exposes the melody of the track and various solo fragments. The other track is a bit quieter; this time the rhythmic guitar is an acoustic one but without wha gear. Perhaps the tracks lack of variety but generally speaking this is the best of Carlo's works we have listened to. We appreciate very much his effort to continue on, to get better and to musically grow up. We hope to listen to his new material soon!

30 year old Losavio has already got relevant musical experiences on his shoulders. He began playing self-taught guitar at age 14, by having as musical references George Benson and Pat Metheny in Jazz, and Blues music great such as B.B. King J. Hendrix, Steve Ray Vaughan. After having attended a Jazz harmony course held by late Jazz teacher Tony Russo (Orchestra drummer at RAI, Italian Television), he moves to Roma at age 20, where he studies with guitar professors such as Gianfranco Diletti, Marco Manusso, Italo De Angelis, Mimmo Langella while attending different guitar workshops held by Frank Gambale, Scott Henderson, Mike Stern, Vinnie Moore. Since then on he plays live with different line-ups. He has began teaching guitar and working as session-man in some studios "My craze is composing" says Carlo to Osservatorio, " I recorded my first demo tracks in 1995 titled 'Rebel' and 'Blues 2000'; in 1998 I re-arranged some of the classics such as 'Libertango' and 'Summertime', onto funky style and just lately, I recorded other two tracks 'Dicembre' and 'Mille Favole'". These two tracks indeed, have caught the attention of CHITARRE, an Italian specialised guitar magazine, which dedicated a review in its May issue into the "Rising talents" instalment; words which sound as a national level promotion for the guitar player from Fasano, Italy, who's playing too with repertoires orchestras. Jazz, Fusion and Blues.
